Learn how to avoid them

1. Only go to crowed touristic places recommended by search channels

These places are too obvious, and usually crowed. Beautiful, as you can see, but there are SO MUCH MORE to do and see. Only a local, as I am, can really help you find other locations related to your own interest , and advise how to improve your experiences at these places.

And if you decide to go these places how are you plan to:
  • define where you going to eat there.

  • what is the best time to go

  • what do you need to take with you

  • best places close by to visit

2. Don't try local Gastronomy

Brazilian gastronomy can be seen as unusual for many foreigners, however, I can bet you incredible experiences at restaurants lead by worldwide known Chefs such as Alberto Landgraf, Helena Rizzo, Manu Buffara, Alex Atala and others.

Other then that, there are many other restaurants and local foods you should definitely give a chance to try:

3. Take taxis and don't know the local currency

Taxis have a global reputation and here in Brazil isn't any different. They have to accept credit cards, however many of them could make this more complicated then it should be, So, I will recommend you to use drivers app like UBER or a local one called 99. they are safe and very common across the country.

The local currency is called Real - BRL - and an easy math is turn 1 US dollar into 5 reais. And just be careful whenever you make payments check if they are charging you properly, specially if you are here for street carnaval, new years season, at the beach or partying.

You wont need a lot of money in species. you may exchange around 100 dollars and use when you have to pay taxi drivers, street food or small amounts.

4. Think that Favelas are everywhere and Brazil is a very dangerous place

Ok, I don't want you thinking this is a super secure country, but our situation is very similar to other countries. just be aware where you are going, mind you cellphone. try to keep them away while you are walking in the streets, avoid getting taxis in the street, try to get a local to take you to downtowns and you should be fine.

There are many fancy restaurants, global hotel branches and all type of services you may need to make you fell safe.

I understand that Brazil could do more to be an easier country to receive foreigners, but I've been in many places around the globe and I am sure you can find great experiences here with family, corporate travelers, romantic experiences, party with friends, shopping, gastronomy and more,
